The old Faulhaber house at Pötzleinsdorfer Straße 87 was known to locals simply as 'das Schlössel', the little castle, and had a reputation as an uncanny building. In one version of the legend it was once a castle where things never quite settled, because in ages past a knight had murdered his unfaithful wife there in the cruellest way. In another version the building was a convent, and down in the deep cellar vaults nuns did heavy penance for their failings — that was where the sounds came from. In reality the house was most likely the old farm estate of the Himmelpforte convent, which may well be where the convent version came from. It still stands on the road up to the Pötzleinsdorf palace park, on the edge of the Vienna Woods.
