Governor Frontenac is said to wander his namesake hotel in Québec City, searching for the heart that never reached his wife.

Château Frontenac, the fairy-tale railway hotel that has crowned Old Québec since 1893, takes its name from the 17th-century governor Louis de Buade de Frontenac. Legend has it that his dying wish was for his heart to be cut out and sent to his beloved wife in France — but the wish was never carried out, and the heart remained in New France. The governor's ghost is therefore said to roam the hotel's corridors in period dress, forever searching. Guests also tell of a woman in white who appears at the bedside at night, stands still for a moment, and then dissolves.
