Three card-players in a smithy realised too late that a stranger was "Old Erik" himself — and a ring drew ever tighter around them.

At Dalby it is told of two old men who sat down to play cards in a smithy, where a stranger joined them. After a while they grasped whose company they were in, but could not escape: a ring drew tighter around them the longer they played. Only when the priest was fetched was "Old Erik" driven out. Had the ring closed, or the priest come too late, the players would have been taken. The same priest is also said to have driven home in faith past terrors and ghostly visions.
