A fearless man saw the Devil come down the road as a great shaggy dog with fire at its throat — and when he turned around, it was gone.

In Segerstad a man told that his brother had one night seen the Devil by the church. He came down the road in the shape of a great, shaggy black dog, fire spitting from its throat. When the brother turned around, not a trace of the dog remained. That it had nonetheless been the Evil One was beyond doubt, and people held that it was precisely because the brother was fearless that he was allowed to see him.
