Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island served during the Civil War as a prison camp for Confederate soldiers. Nearly 13,000 were held at once and around 2,500 died in harsh conditions. Visitors tell of cold spots, figures and unexplained sounds in the old vaults. Reached by ferry, the fort is today a popular destination for ghost watches.
