A stranger with claws hooked round the table leg mocked the priest's sins – until a wiser priest forced him out through a needle hole.

In Fjærestrond in Seljord some men were playing cards when a stranger asked to join. He kept losing, but when a card fell his long claws were seen gripping the table leg, and all realised it was the devil himself. The first priest was driven off with scorn, but the priest Wettengren from Bø stood firm through a contest of words and finally banished him out through a hole bored in the leaden window frame, leaving the walls shrieking.
