At the manor of Apertin in Stora Kil a countess is said to have lived, so proud she could not even bear the smell of the parish folk's tarred shoes in church, and built a chapel of her own. One evening, at a dance she had arranged, an elegant unknown gentleman appeared who danced incomparably well. He whirled the countess on and on until blood rose around her feet. When a tail was spotted beneath his coat, a priest was called, who at last gained power over the Evil One and forced him, writhing, out through a hole in the leaded window.
