In Norra Vi a tale was told of old Fejer in the Svanshals poorhouse, who was said to know more than others: to stanch blood, to sap the strength from horses, and much else. Once he offered to teach his art, but it required gruesome preparations with many elaborate rituals in the churchyard and at a church door. Behind it all lay, according to the legend, a contract with the very master of Svaveltorp — that is, the Evil One — whom Fejer had engaged.
