An old man in Mulseryd parish made a pact with the devil to grow rich, in return for being taken alive after a set number of years. When the time came, the devil arrived in a burning wagon drawn by two black horses, but the priest read and prayed so that the Evil One had no power. Yet the old man, who had always cursed, happened to swear – and in that instant the devil snatched him right under the priest's nose and vanished forever.
