A boy on an errand found his path blocked — and wherever he turned, something dark and horned stood against him on the road.

An old sailor named Charles told how, as a small boy near Göteborg, he set out one evening on an errand. Further along the road something stood blocking him, and when he tried another way, there too something barred the path. It seemed to come toward him; he heard it tramping and saw a dark figure that appeared to have horns. The boy turned and ran home as fast as he could, crying that the devil was after him.
