One Christmas a strange man joined the cards at Finnbuan. He had a claw on one foot — and the priest had to answer for old thefts before conjuring him out.

On the farm Finnbuan in Leksvik they played and drank for days one Christmas, until a strange and very skilled card player joined in. When a card fell and a man bent for it, he saw the guest had a claw on one foot, fixed into the table-leg, and understood who the Christmas guest was. The priest was fetched, but the Evil One brought up the priest's old thefts — a ball of thread, a book, a darning needle — and the priest answered each; with that same needle he pierced the window lead and forced him out through the hole amid thunder and whining.
