A man out in Aurdal sat playing cards with some farmers when a stranger joined in. Around eleven the master wanted to stop but could not be rid of the stranger, and sent for the priest. Soon all understood it was the Evil One, for he turned to the master and said that when the candle in the holder burned out he would take him; then the priest hurried to Aurdal church for a book from the altar and read him out — but only after they had bored a hole in the window lead, and then off he flew.
