In Strömfors they tell of a boy whose mother had unknowingly pledged him to a dark power. The priest hid him beneath the church altar for a night and warned that the evil one would come in many shapes, even as the priest himself. The boy held firm against roaring oxen, fierce dogs and iron hooks, and in the morning composed the hymn Wake up, my soul, give glory.
