A girl wept at the church door for forgetting her hair braids — a stranger gave her new ones, but they turned out to be two serpents.

At Svarteborg it is told of a young girl from the Dingle district who set out for church one Sunday morning. At the little church door she realised she had forgotten her false hair braids and grew sad. A man met her and offered to give her new ones, but the braids he set in her hair proved to be two serpents. Impossible to remove, they bit in every direction and grew calm only when fed sweet milk.
