In Vågan they tell that Petter Dass of Alstahaug was the most skilled with the black book. When the devil brought word that he was to preach in Copenhagen, the priest turned him into a horse and rode there as fast as the wind. The witch Legd-Else followed on her broom and has told the whole tale. The priest preached from a blank sheet, but after that night the witch vanished without trace, and the saying 'a Petter Dass ride' lives on.
