A woman promised her unborn child to the Evil One. Fifteen years later the boy was saved inside a chalk circle in the church choir.

In Sillerud a tale was told of a pregnant woman who, in a rash moment, promised what she carried beneath her apron to a stranger. He would come for it in fifteen years. As the time drew near, she and her son sought help from the priest, who took the boy into the church, seated him at a table in the choir, and drew a chalk circle inscribed with Jesus' name around him. Temptations and terrifying visions tried to lure the boy out, but he held fast. In the morning the true priest could step into the circle, give him books, and send him home — yet just at the door the Evil One is said to have struck him in the back.
