A mother sold her unborn child to the Devil. Twenty years later, the boy's freedom hung on three riddling questions.

In Fritsla a tale was told of a pregnant woman who met the Devil and agreed to sell what she carried, on condition he not fetch the child until twenty years had passed. When the time came, the boy was given a chance to go free if he could answer three questions. Asked what was softer than soft, he answered "my mother's knee," and asked what was harder than hard, he replied: "when my mother sold me to you." He answered all three and was freed.
