Castillo San Felipe del Morro

In the corridors of the Spanish clifftop fortress, soldiers are still said to stand watch – and moans that never fell silent rise from the dungeons.

El Morro took nearly 250 years to complete and for centuries guarded the entrance to San Juan against pirates and enemy fleets. Many rank the fortress as Puerto Rico's most haunted place. Visitors tell of Spanish soldiers pacing the ramparts and dissolving into the stone, and of low moans rising from the old dungeons. A woman in white is also said to appear in the passageways – no one has ever seen her face.
