In Skållerud the Evil One is said to have met the priest with charges of old sins, but the priest had an answer for each: he had blessed every grain and left money for food he took. When the fiend at last produced a contract, a signed deed, the priest took it in God's name, chopped it to bits, and made the crofter eat it.
