The priest of Komperud had attended the Wittenberg school and could conjure out Old Erik. At the Valle inn in Lier, where brandy was sold and the cards ran hard, a man came in one evening and sat silent by the stove; at last they understood it was the Evil One himself. When the priest came driving up, Old Erik cried that the "Komperud dog" was on its way, but the priest reminded him he had come in by the door and would not leave the same way, pierced the leaded pane, and whined him out through the hole.
