Provost Hofdahl of Pärnå sometimes let guests at dances and weddings step into his holy shoes, whereupon they saw the devil whirling among the dancers. One morning he foretold a strange visit: an old woman with the devil riding on her back. His sister laughed, but when she stood in the shoes she saw the vision, and the woman indeed came later that day, after which the provost freed her through his prayers.
