In the red mire-holes of Alet, the devil is said to have worn through the eleventh band of his wooden clog — ground no one could set foot on.

At Essunga it is told that the devil wore out the eleventh band of his wooden clog in the Alet bog. Alet was full of true mire-holes and mosses, between Vädet and Råsljötahanen, and once no one could set foot there. The water ran red-brown with iron, which only deepened the place's eerie reputation.
