The Tailor's Apprentice in the Parsonage, Norberg
Västmanland · Sweden · Site of legend
The maids sewed crinolines on Whitsun Eve – and the helper among them had horns and a horse's foot.
At the parsonage in Västanfors, told from Norberg, the dean came home one Whitsun evening and saw through the kitchen window his maids sewing crinolines for communion. Among them sat a tailor's apprentice helping out, but he had horns, a swagger and a horse's foot, which the maids did not notice. The priest went in and cast his priestly cloak around them, so they saw it was the Devil himself. Terrified, they put off their communion and begged God's forgiveness for their breach of the Sabbath.
