The Maid at the Spinning Wheel and the Black Dog

Sweden · Site of legend

A great dog helped her bury the child, but it was no ordinary dog.

A maid sitting at her spinning confessed to another that she had borne a child and buried it by a pine, helped by a large dog that kicked the hole open. The other reported the deed, and the child-killer was imprisoned four years. The dog, it was said, was no real dog but "the one who is good for nothing".
