In Skållerud a priest is said to have hired a shoemaker who came only the day before Christmas Eve and asked to work alone at night. The priest's servant peeked through the keyhole and saw the room full of little black devils sewing and pegging. When one of them flicked the awl, the servant lost the sight of an eye. By morning all the shoes were done.
