The priest's wife secretly kept a nisse in her service – until the learned son brought him forth and denied him every wage but a stone.

At Garde a pious priest had a worldly wife who secretly kept a nisse. The learned son noticed again and again that a servant was missing at the muster, and on the third visit he brought the nisse forth himself. The nisse admitted he had earned the father's soul and now worked on the mother's, but the student denied him every wage – at last only the great stone by the gate, which the nisse flew off with, freeing the house of him.
