A great heavy stranger was called across the water, claiming to be from both near and far – and was held to be the Devil who hanged two at Rastad.

At Sundshult people were ferried across, and one evening someone called terribly from the far side. The oarsman fetched an unusually large, heavy man who said he was from both near and far, bound for Rastad to settle an estate, yet refused to give his name. It was the Devil, and wicked folk lived at Rastad – in the night two were found hanged, perhaps his doing.
