At Otterstad it was told of a man who had sold himself to the Fiend and was on his way to the appointed meeting place. He stopped at a church where the priest had just promised help to anyone who had signed himself away, and after the sermon the priest re-baptised him. When he reached the meeting place the Fiend leafed in vain through his book: the name that had stood there the day before was gone.
