The Evil One came disguised as a fine gentleman to claim his victim — but the dean held a small child on his lap, and the fiend stood powerless.

In Toarp a tale was told of an ungodly man who had pledged himself to the Evil One. When the latter came, dressed as a distinguished gentleman, to fetch him, word had been sent for Dean Rabe of Länghem. The dean brought his little son and set him on his lap, and before the innocent child the Evil One stood powerless and was forced to depart. The man who had pledged himself, however, fell mortally ill afterward and is said to have died.
