The Five Fingers on St. Mary's Church Wall, Visby
Sweden · Church
When a wicked, rich old woman was laid to rest in the choir, the Evil One came by night and bore her out a window — her handprints still mark the wall.
In Visby a very wicked and devilish woman is said to have once died, but because she was rich she was given a stately burial and laid to rest in the choir of St. Mary's. The following night the Evil One came, took her from the coffin, and bore her out through a window on the church's north side. There, high upon the wall, clear marks of her fingers and hand are said to still be visible, from when she vainly tried to stay her flight.
