In Eidsberg they tell of the priest Thams, who owned the black book and used it with care. Once, while he preached in church, a boy had found the book and read a host of devils loose, so the parsonage and kitchens hung full of them. The maid had to run to the church, and the priest hurried home, bound the whole crowd, and then gave a sermon so moving the whole congregation wept.
