Once when Svenesen of Etnedal was at the mountain pasture, the servant girl got hold of his book and read the right chapter, so the devil came loose. Svenesen sensed that all was not well at home and rode at a bounding gallop down to the village. The devil was indeed free, but now he had to twist sand rope for Svenesen while the man bound him – and all was done.
