A maid read the devil loose – and his impossible tasks moved mountain peaks and dug out a whole bay.
One of the priests in Vågan owned the black book, and while he was away on a sick-visit the maid found it and read the devil free, dreadful with horns and hooves. To be rid of him she set him to move a mountain peak and dig out a bay – the one now called Kjerkvågen. When he returned she set him to braid three rows of rope from sand along the shores of the newly dug bay.
