Near Tingvoll the priest's daughter is said to have read an ugly man out of a book while her father preached. Knowing no better plan, she sent him down to the shore to twist rope out of sand. Strive as he might, he managed only a few fathoms, and the priest, sensing trouble, came home to end it.
