A dance-loving girl peered through the window before joining in — and saw flames around the fiddler's bow. Then she knew who was playing.
This Elverum legend concerns a girl who could never get enough of dancing, however far the dance-house lay. One evening she paused outside and looked in through the window to see who was there. Inside the dancing went fast and wild. When she looked to see who was fiddling, a chill ran down her back: sparks flew around the bow and flames seemed to stand about the fiddle. Then she understood who it was, took fright, and made for home.
