The Old One at the Table's End (Odda)
Hordaland · Norway · Sägenplats · Scare 3/5
The Evil One loved cards but hated the clubs. When the deck in the Åse-man's game ran short, the old one himself sat at the table's end — and the man never touched cards again.
The Evil One found a particular delight in card-playing, though the clubs were always a thorn in his eye, and used to make the cards vanish little by little. An Åse-man sat in a party at play when the clubs went missing, and only when they looked did they find the old one seated at the table's end, playing along. After that the Åse-man never touched cards again, and told the young that had they seen as much of card-playing as he, they would never take a card in hand more.
