Fishermen playing cards in a church saw the old one in the doorway – until a hymn drove him out.

In the old days, when men rowed small boats to Lofoten, the fishermen had to seek shelter ashore at night. Once some had to lodge in a church, but a few of them took up a game of cards. Then they saw the devil himself come in through the church door, and all sat terrified. But an old man struck up the hymn 'A Mighty Fortress Is Our God', and at the words naming Jesus Christ the old one turned and went out the door again.
