Old Rynning and the Ride on One Wheel, Sør-Odal
Hedmark · Norway · Sägenplats · Scare 3/5
The horse stopped dead, the priest had a wheel removed – and off they went with sparks flying behind.
Erik Rynning was parish priest of Sør-Odal for 59 years, and people believed he owned the black book. Once, when the servant Lars was driving him home from Sander, the horse stopped dead at the Mortdal brook and would go no further. The priest then had Lars take off one wheel and lay it in the carriage. When he climbed back on, off they went with sparks flying behind, and it ran smoothly on just one wheel. At the parsonage the priest said: 'Thanks for the help, but do not do such a thing again.'
