In Salten they tell of a vessel's skipper in Bergen who feared he'd never reach home for Christmas against the wind. A stranger offered to bring the ship home for a price: whoever first stepped ashore. With the hatches sealed, the vessel flew home at incredible speed. When they landed, an old sailor threw the ship's dog ashore first – and that was all the stranger got for his labour.
