One Christmas Eve an ordinary-looking man stepped in to the priest – who knew him at once for the Devil, and could not preach for three years after.

At Brötegen in Steneby, Satan is said to have appeared to the priest Hartsberg one Christmas Eve, dressed as an ordinary man yet recognised on sight. The Evil One accused him of stealing three souls from him over the past year. The terror struck the priest so hard that he could not preach for three years, but once recovered he preached more powerfully than ever before.
