The man out in the sound refused to move his fish traps – and when the student threatened to duck him in the current, he began to grow until he reached the treetops.

In September 1698 the future dean Olof Broman, later Hälsingland's foremost eighteenth-century chronicler, lay with the student Petter Frodlander at Kimsundet in Rogsta to fish for burbot. They set their traps in the evening and went into a boathouse some way off. At dusk they heard what sounded like stones being thrown into the water, went out onto the jetty and saw a man setting fish traps right up against their own. They shouted at him to mind their gear, and when he paid no heed Frodlander threatened to take him by the hair and duck him in the current. At that the man began to grow, until by Broman's account he stood twelve or thirteen ells tall, level with the alders on the shore. They fled into the boathouse and barred the door. Soon something came tramping heavily across the drying ground, hurled logs about in the porch and shook the building until past midnight. In the morning the traps were undamaged – and overflowing with fish.
