A shoemaker in Horred always finished on time, but no one dared watch how the work truly got done.

In Horred in southern Mark people spoke of a shoemaker rumoured to have unseen help. One Christmas Eve he locked himself alone in a small chamber, yet the household soon heard the bustle of many hands, and through the keyhole the room seemed crowded with working figures. By morning the shoes stood finished and polished, but after that night no one dared hire him again.
