Two fishermen camping on an islet saw an unseen boat, panicked animals, and a fire where a man had hanged himself.

At the islet of Witten in Åmål parish in Dalsland, two fishermen put ashore for the night. At midnight they heard a boat shoved out and oars cast, but no boat was there when they looked. Then bewildered squirrels and a frightened flock of sheep ran about, and at last they saw a figure sitting and tending a fire beneath a spruce where a man from Botilsäter had hanged himself years before. The fishermen took it for the devil himself haunting the islet.
