The Black Lady is said to be the nun Editha, whose convent was expelled — and a White Lady walks seeking her murdered love.

Tamworth Castle has two well-known ghosts. The Black Lady is said to be the nun Editha, who founded her order in the 9th century and whose sisters were, by legend, expelled from their convent by Robert de Marmion. The White Lady was reputedly thrown into the tower by Sir Tarquin, fell in love with him, and now walks seeking her lost love. The well-preserved Norman castle is a museum today.
