On stormy nights, Count de Lopinot is said to come galloping on a black horse in full uniform across his old cocoa estate.

In a lush valley of Trinidad's Northern Range lies Lopinot, the cocoa and coffee estate founded in the early 1800s by the French count Charles Joseph de Lopinot after he fled Haiti. The count died in 1819, but local legend has him returning in thunderstorms: dressed in full military regalia, he gallops on a black horse across the savannah before his old estate house. The house is now a museum, and the valley is considered so spirit-ridden that the TV show Ghost Hunters International, after filming here in 2011, claimed to have found more evidence of activity than anywhere else in the world.
