The story is that a young woman was told her love had been killed in the Second World War, and entered the community. Some years later he returned alive.

She had already given her heart to God. What happened to her mind afterwards is the story, and she is said to have been confined in the tower.

No record supports it, and it should be read as college legend rather than history. Religious communities did not lock members in towers.

What is true is that a great many women of that generation entered convents, and that some of them did so after losing somebody. The war took an enormous number of young men and left an enormous number of young women deciding what to do with the rest of their lives.
