The old Nueces County Courthouse

The story sends a boy up to the top floor on a Halloween night in the early 1900s. He did not believe in any of it before he went.

The old courthouse at Corpus Christi, Texas is a large abandoned building, and the story attached to it concerns a boy who went up to the top floor one Halloween night in the early 1900s.

He did not believe in ghosts before that.

One claim in the original account should be corrected. It says the number of hangings there has been scientifically proven, which is not a thing that happens. Executions in Texas counties were carried out in jail yards and by the state after 1924, not on the upper floors of courthouses, and the current building did not exist until 1914.

What is true is that this courthouse was the legal centre of the county for most of a century, and it has stood empty and fought over for decades.

The building is derelict and closed.
