Sharpshooters are seen on the rocks at the foot of the field. Cameras are reported to fail here more than anywhere else on the Gettysburg battlefield.

The Triangular Field lies above Devil's Den at Gettysburg, and on the second day of July 1863 it was one of the worst pieces of ground on the field.

Confederate sharpshooters are reported on the rocks at the bottom of the field, at the edge of the woods, in position to fire.

The field has a reputation among battlefield guides for cameras failing, which has been claimed for decades across every generation of camera technology and remains the most repeated claim about the site.

What should not be lost in the reporting is the history. The fighting for Devil's Den and this slope cost thousands of casualties in a few hours, and men from Texas, Georgia and Alabama attacked uphill over these rocks into New York and Pennsylvania regiments.

The field is part of the national military park and is open.
