Walhalla
Ohio · United States · Execution site
Drive under the bridge at night and look right, into the water. What is said to have happened in the house cannot be dated to within a hundred and fifty.
Walhalla Road runs through a wooded ravine in Columbus, Ohio, and it is the best known haunted road in the city.
The story is that a man killed his wife and daughter in a house on this road, and that driving under the bridge at night you can see them reflected in the water on the right hand side.
One thing gives the game away. The date is given as either the 1800s or the 1960s depending on who tells it, and a gap of a hundred and fifty years is not a detail that gets lost from a real case. No such killing is recorded on this road in either period.
What happens after you go under the bridge is the part everybody tries.
The ravine itself is genuinely striking: a narrow road far below the surrounding streets, crossed by a high stone bridge, with houses built into the slopes.
It is a public road through a residential neighbourhood, and the residents are tired of traffic at night.
