A maid wished the fox would take them – and was gone a year, until she danced in among the youth and vanished again in the Devil's grip.

On Billingen two maids herded cattle, and when they lay down one called a blessing while the other wished the fox would take them. When the first woke, her companion was gone for a whole year. At a midsummer revel she came riding, danced one round among the young people and vanished with a sigh. Had anyone stopped her with God's name or a garter she would have been freed, but now the Evil One held her.
